Eligibility for Admission to Ph.D.: The candidates for Ph.D. Programme may be offered admission, based on certain minimum academic requirements to be satisfied by the candidates as given below.

1. Engineering (Electrical & Mechanical) : Master Degree in Engineering/Technology or equivalent in an appropriate area with a minimum CPI equivalent to 60% of marks as per conversion formula prescribed by the University/Institute. OR Bachelor Degree in Engineering/Technology.
2. Sciences (Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics) : Master Degree in Science in an appropriate area with a minimum CPI equivalent to 60% of marks as per conversion formula prescribed by the University/Institute with valid GATE score or NET qualified.

Selection Procedure for Admission to Ph.D.: The admission to Ph.D. Programme will be on the basis of weightage as given below.

1. Overall academic performance (to be fixed by the Ph.D. Admission Committee) 70%
2. Interview conducted by the Department 30%

Eligibility

• Those who have completed MPhil in Women’s and Gender Studies or in a related Social Sciences or Humanities discipline.
• Those who have a Masters degree with at least 55% in aggregate along with at least two years of work experience or publications in a related field.

Fellowships and Stipend

• Successful Ph.D. candidates will be eligible to apply for ICSSR Doctoral Fellowships through the CWDS, for which there is a separate application process including the interview which will be undertaken after formal registration in the Ph.D. programme.
• AUD will give a stipend to Ph.D. scholars who are not availing any fellowship/grant.

Ph.D. Admission Process: Admission to the programme will comprise of three components of Research proposal; entrance exam and interview.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Candidates who have done B.Tech from Centrally Funded Technical Institutes with minimum CPI of 7.5 or candidates who have done M.Sc with the minimum CPI of 7.0 are eligible to get admission in PhD without even showing the GATE score card.
Candidates who are appearing the final year, they are also eligible for the same.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

The application forms should be submitted via post as there is no online mode is applicable. You can download the application form from the site www.iitk.ac.in. Candidates who want to take admission in PhD, they must submit two letters of reference letters too. It should be sent along with the application form.

APPLICATION FORM

The application fee is for Rs. 400/- for the candidates belong to General and OBC category and candidates who belong to reserved category such as SC/ST, they need to pay Rs. 200/-. The payment should be done via demand draft in the favor of “The Registrar”, IIT Kanpur that should be payable at Kanpur.

EDUCATION QUALIFICATION

For PhD in Engineering- Candidate must have passed Master’s degree in Engineering in the relevant discipline with more than 60% marks. 
Candidates who have enrolled in M.Sc,they can also apply for the same.

For M.Tech (by Research) Degree –  Candidate must have done Master’s degree in Science or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Master’s degree in Computer Applications including Math or Physics as the core subjects in the Bachelors level with at least 60% marks or CGPA 6.5 on the scale of 10.
Candidates who have done M.Sc Computer Science or MCA and want to do PhD, first, they will have to register for M.Tech (by research) and then they can go for PhD.

For M.Phil/ PhD in Sciences/Languages – Candidate must have done Master’s degree (in Science) with at least 6.5 CGPA or 60% marks to be eligible for getting admission in M.Phil and Ph.D.

For PhD in Management– Candidates must have done Master in Business Administration (MBA) with at least CGPA 6.5 out of 10 or 60% marks.

For PhD in Law– Candidates must have passed Master’s Degree in law with at least CGPA of 6.0 out of 10 or 55% marks.

NOTE: For all the PhD programs, you must have done your Masters in regular.

HOW TO APPLY

Candidates must visit the official website that is www.vit.ac.inFill all the relevant data on the blanks and then complete the payment section.
Candidates need to pay Rs. 950 that should be drawn in favor of “VIT University” payable at Vellore.
Make sure you send the hard copy of filled application form along with the demand draft to “Dean Academic Research, VIT University, Chennai campus, Vandalur, Kelambakkam, Chennai-600127”.

Selection Procedure – The selection of the candidate will be done on the basis of the academic performance, performance in written test and personal interview.

The written examination and interview session will be conducted on –  12th December 2015
Dead line for paying the fee – 8th January 2016
